Sgt. Rodney Priddle of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary told media that they deployed their explosives sniffing K-9 unit, explosives disposal unit and patrol officers to search the area with the help of personnel from HMP. Police also closed off a section of Forest Road and Clancey Avenue for safety reasons while the search was carried out. Officers could be seen searching the grounds around the prison as the K-9 dog was used to also examine vehicles in the parking lot nearby. Curious onlookers, pedestrians and motorists slowed to check out the scene and several asked media what was happening. Priddle said that the search came up empty and that the scene was cleared after about an hour and a half. He also added that even though nothing was found, threats like these are taken seriously.
